AMBASA MANDELAAmbasa mandela is a singer, writer and performing artist. Growing up as an orphan boy in the slum of Mathare is not a unique story in modern-day Nairobi, Kenya. However, Mandela’s experiences and triumphs as a former member of a successful internationally recognised band called Sarabi, is a unique one.
At the age of 11, Mandela was scouted and chosen to perform at a children’s festival in Norway called Barn Er Bra, and with his newfound exposure, music quickly became his weapon and a way out of the slums. Music took centre stage in Mandela’s life and since he began to pursue a full-time career in music, he has had successful performances in Africa, Europe, UK, and continues to travel to create and share stories with the people.
To date, Mandela is a dedicated teacher, comedian, mentor and artist entrepreneur. Working with children and young people all around the East African region and beyond, Mandela’s devotion to spreading love and peace through his music together with his unique style, has proven to be inspirational and is fast catching.
He comes in my house, i welcome him with a camera to his face and tells him to do a mush up with his uncle. there is just love and energy in his music and i can never stop shooting and showing the world who mandela is.
